Acne is one of the most prevalent conditions in the world, affecting primarily teens whose hormones are in a state of constant fluctuation. Acne has become more pronounced in the adult population as well, despite the fact that it was once considered a condition exclusive to the younger demographic. This has fueled speculation that perhaps there is much more than just hormones at play. Regardless, most people seem to be ill-informed about the various risk factors for acne. One of these happens to be popping pimples. One or two pimples are not considered acne, but can easily be transformed into a full-blown case of the disorder once squeezed or popped. Since the mixture of acne bacteria and sebum (oil) is stored within a pore, it can be transferred to those nearby with an adequate amount of force. As such, you trigger a chain reaction of sorts when you pick at your acne lesions. One of the less obvious risk factors for acne is makeup. Although it is applied to the skin (on a constant basis for many), it doesn’t seem particularly harmful. As some have learned the hard way, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Many makeup products have been found to clog pores with repeated use. Yes, believe it or not, your expensive, brand name waterproof foundation makeup may be causing your breakouts. Once a pore is clogged, the acne bacteria inside the pore begin to replicate and a pimple is formed. So, while the makeup might be hiding your existing acne lesions, it’s creating new ones for you – creating a dangerous dependency on the product. The effect of makeup use is often exasperated when people fail to wash it off or adequately moisturize the skin underneath (which may encourage it to produce more oil). The most important thing to remember about makeup in relation to acne is to only purchase non-comedogenic products. The cost of these makeup products may be a tad higher, but it is well worth it since they are specially engineered to prevent pore blockages. Always be sure to scrutinize each ingredient in an acne product by researching it online. You should avoid products whose ingredients raise any red flags in your online research.

This does not go to say that purchasing the right products is simply enough. You need to discipline yourself to remove your makeup every night. If you use alcohol pads to do so, cleanse and moisturize your skin afterward. Don’t touch your skin throughout the day with dirty hands and limit the number of times you reapply your makeup. If you follow these strategies, it is unlikely that you’ll face tremendous problems with acne.

Artery blockages occur for a number of reasons but in most people fighting this problem it is mainly due to the accumulation of arterial plaques caused by unhealthy levels of cholesterol and high levels of hypertension. In simplistic terms the best way to reduce artery blockages is to remove plaque in arteries by changing your diet and supporting the whole process by increase your activity levels.

When people eat food that has high levels of cholesterol, that cholesterol ends up circulating through the blood stream through the digestive process. It is mainly a combination of HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. The cholesterol is a good thing and it needs to be there but too much LDL cholesterol can lead to blocked arteries. To keep LDL levels from rising too high HDL cholesterol works to lower your LDL cholesterol out of the blood stream before artery blockages can occur.

So how do you increase your levels of good HDL cholesterol while lowering your overall cholesterol count? The consumption of fatty omega-3 acids is just the way. These fatty acids are found in abundance in seafood and especially in oily fish like salmon and mackerel. You can also find a good amount of omega-3s in some greens such as purslane and in flax which is sometimes found in healthy breakfast bars.

Of course eating the right foods is only part of the battle. You also have to lower your consumption levels of bad cholesterol foods. Often this is means the excessive consumption of red meats and processed foods. You also have to lose your habit of living sedentary lifestyle as physical activity plays a large role in the maintenance of a health cholesterol ratio between LDL and HDL types.

Changing your habits is an important element to reducing artery blockages and should not ever be downplayed in its importance. Depending upon your degree of problem your doctor may prescribe medicinal treatments to help decrease arterial blockages but these basic lifestyle factors must never be overlooked.

Onychomycosis (also referred to as Dermatophytic Onychomycosis) is an infection of the nail caused by fungi.  Most infections take hold in the toenails rather than the fingernails.   A US study in 1997 indicated a prevalence of 7-10% and recent years have seen the emergence of new anti-fugal medications designed to treat the disease.  FungusFacts.com has a series of nail fungus treatment reviews to assist those considering their treatment options.

The disease comes in a number of forms which the British Association of Dermatologists have defined into five main categories:

1.) Distal and Lateral Subungual Onychomycosis

This refers to infections of the top edge and lateral edges of the nail that can also travel underneath the nail (i.e. a subungual position).  In some instances the infection remains on one side of the nail but tends to be progressive and spread to cover the whole nail over a period of time.  Texture changes, discoloration and thickening of the nail often result.

2.) Superficial White Onychomycosis

This is less common than the previous category and is more superficial in nature.  With this condition the color change is white rather than yellow and the nail surface is commonly flaky.

3) Proximal Subungual Onychomycosis

This is a rare form of nail fungus infection that can affect patients with a suppressed immune system.

4) Candidal Onychomycosis

This relates to the infection of the nail with Candida yeasts (yeast is the spore form of fungus).  This form of the disease is less common and has similar characteristics to Distal and Lateral Subungual Onychomycosis.

5) Total Dystrophic Onychomycosis

All forms of nail fungus infections are progressive and can eventually reach a stage where the nail is destroyed.   Total Dystrophic Onychomycosis refers to this condition.

If you suspect a nail fungus infection it is important to discuss your symptoms with a doctor.  Despite that fact that around half of all nail disorders are caused by fungus, it is important to receive a definite diagnosis before undergoing a treatment regime.

All people will experience anxiety. It is a state of mind wherein there is this principal fear that something bad is about to take place. There are several reasons which can trigger the onset of anxiety which is also referred to as depression, worry, panic, being tense or over sensitive and so on.

Anxiety is normal. As a matter of fact, its sole existence is to test the ability of the person to rationalize and think of safe routes out of a particular situation. However, if you are always overly anxious and for no apparent reason at all, then you are most likely suffering from what is referred to as an anxiety attack disorder. The signs and symptoms of such condition may vary from person to person, but there are general symptoms associated with it such as paranoia, shortness of breath, dry mouth & throat, constipation, sleep disorders, agitation to name a few.

Then again, controlling anxiety is possible. Here are a couple of ways on how you can overcome social anxiety and anxiety attacks.

1.) Talk to someone whom you know you can trust. Talk to your closest friend or a member of your family about your problem. Burst out all of your concerns instead of keeping inside and all to yourself. You will feel much lighter if you get it out of your system.

2.) Amidst your busy and hectic schedule, try to find time wherein you can relax and meditate. If you are always stressed out, you are more likely to experience such attacks. Meditation helps lower down your high stress levels and such activity can immensely help you obtain that peaceful and calm mind. Allocate at least fifteen to twenty minutes of your time every single day wherein you can meditate.

3.) Perform deep breathing techniques. Deep breathing exercises will promote proper blood circulation and enhance blood oxygenation and this can help you fight off the signs and symptoms of social anxiety and panic attacks.

The main problem of our body is toxins; they can cause serious health problems and can lead to the installation of various diseases. The main organs that detox your body are the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, skin and lymphatic system. The colon is the first organ to be neat but otherwise can become the source that contributes the most to the pollution of the body and overloading it with toxins.

Where do toxins come from?

Modern man, because of unnatural food, consumes annually 4 to 6 lbs of food additives: chemical dyes, emulsifiers, taste stabilizers, preservatives. As if it was not enough, most foods contain residues of pesticides, herbicides, nitrates and other carcinogenic substances. Cosmetics (creams, deodorants, shampoo) give another 4 to 6 lbs of toxic substances. Water, air, soil is contaminated with solvents, with exhaust gases, dioxins, heavy metals, volatile substances, etc.

In these conditions, the detoxification of the colon is a necessity and the most important step towards detoxifying the entire body. In the folds of the colon, diverticulum, or directly on the walls there is rotting debris that can accumulate for years. These residues can irritate the bowel walls, producing excess mucus. This mucus, which occurs initially as a defensive reaction to irritating factors, can accumulate over time and transform into a mucoid plaque that affects the absorption of nutrients, contributing to constipation and even to the auto-intoxication of the body.

Auto-intoxication, a real threat to health!

Auto-intoxication represents the recirculation of the toxins in the body that results from faulty digestion and not eliminating toxins in time. This creates an imbalance of the intestinal flora with serious effects on immunity. This imbalance can also be induced by abrupt weight loss and by using a fast diet, diets that do not supply the necessary amount of nutrients.

A study made in Britain, on people aged between 35 and 55 years revealed that 95% of subjects had at least one auto-intoxication symptom: tension, stress, paleness, constipation / diarrhea, chronic fatigue, head and back pain, bloating and flatulence, indigestion and nausea, bad taste in mouth, halitosis, and unpleasant body odor. Auto-intoxication is most common because of incomplete digestion, disruption and intestinal flora, especially because of chronic constipation!

Acid reflux disease can occur at any age. The symptoms have to be observed with great deal of scrutiny to identify its extent. There are various reasons which can lead to the disease. Factors like lifestyle, certain medications, diet (including eating habits) are major causes of acid reflux disease.

Lifestyle and diet are two major factors among the ones we mentioned above. They, to a large extent, determine and control the intensity of disease in the body. Having a suitable lifestyle which involves no smoking or drinking and not involving any kind of drugs can have a great impact in establishing the presence of the disease. Though alcohol consumption doesn’t risk the chances of getting this disease as much as smoking does, it is still a big threat. Reports confirm that smoking increases the possibility of developing acid reflux disease, and even worsen symptoms in those who suffer from it. Recent studies have also shown that consuming salt in huge proportions can increase the risk of getting the disease by up to 70 percent.

Other dietary measures include abstaining from fatty foods and junk food like burgers and pizzas. The meals taken should be lesser in amount and should be eaten at proper times. Meals just before bedtime should be avoided as they take a long time to digest and can worsen the situation. Caffeine drinks, citrus and spicy foods should also be avoided.

But don’t just change your diet and hope for the best. Before you do anything, you should consult your doctor and have him examine your potential acid reflux disease. He can the tell you the best way to change your lifestyle and diet in order to get rid of the disease – or if you need medicine or surgery in order to get well again. You might think you know what is best for you, but don’t change anything without checking it with your doctor.
