Plantar fasciitis is a medical condition that affects the bottom of the foot via the inflammation of the plantar fascia, a fibrous ligament that runs along the sole of the foot. It typically affects people who are on their feet for much of the day, and this is probably why I became afflicted by it. I am currently working in a pharmacy that requires me to be on my feet for most of the day, and over time I progressively noticed a sharp pain that kept getting worse. It got bad enough to the point that I was taking over the recommended dose in both Tylenol and Ibuprofen, and that was when I knew that it was time that I needed to see a doctor.

After seeing my physician he diagnosed me with plantar fasciitis and recommended that I invest some time in order to locate a pair of shoes that can provide the necessary support to help alleviate my condition. I asked him what the best shoes for plantar fasciitis are, and he told me that any shoe that is capable of providing relief to the affected areas of your feet is optimal. This essentially meant that I needed to find a shoe that had a high level of support, and one that felt comfortable at the same time. He also told me that weaker shoes that are flimsy simply will not due, and that I needed to find a well-designed shoe that was strong with the appropriate amount of cushioning.

So I had my goal in mind of locating the best shoes for plantar fasciitis, and ultimately I found what I was looking for. After going to numerous retailers I eventually purchased a pair of New Balance Men’s MR993 Running Shoes, a pretty cool shoe regardless of any kind of medical use. After wearing these shoes at my job for about a month my symptoms began to subside and no longer was I in pain all day. I would recommend these shoes to anyone who is interested in getting a comfortable and supportive pair of shoes, and especially to anyone who is suffering from plantar fasciitis or some other form of foot pain. Just remember that getting the right pair of shoes for plantar fasciitis isn’t simply about getting a shoe with a significant amount of support, as you also have to take into consideration your own particular gait, and arch in order to get a shoe that actually fits.

Everybody knows about the benefits of jogging or running. But runners usually wonder what to look for when trying to get their perfect running shoes. The advice usually differs, especially in terms of which brand to get. Some people are loyal to Nike, others to Newton Running. New runners often find this very confusing. Some rely on what people say are the best brand and they end up with running shoes that are ill-fitting or uncomfortable. This article will tell you about factors to consider when shopping for the perfect running shoes.

You need to consider the gait you have when figuring out what kind of running shoes to get. There are two problems that runners can be exposed to. There is overpronation, a problem suffered by runners that have flat feet. Then there is underpronation which happens to people that have high foot arches.

Manufacturers of running shoes put in extreme amounts of time and research to make the perfect running shoe. But there is no such thing. There have been shoes that claim to be the perfect pair for everybody but they have failed to live up to this claim. There is no perfect pair of running shoes for everyone; there is just that perfect pair for you. And to find it, you first have to understand what kind of feet you have.

The amount of experience that you have with running also plays a factor in choosing your running shoes. Those that run professionally have different needs than a beginner. Most of the running shoes we find for sale were created for beginner runners. In general, the bulky shoes are perfect for those who are just beginning to run. The more streamlined-looking ones are made for people who have trained to be in running marathons.

The most advanced air of running shoes can be quite intimidating for beginner runners. They believe that expensive shoes are only for those professional ones. But this is not the case. Cheaper shoes are better used by the more experienced runners because there are better able to control problems with pronation better than an amateur can.

Look for a pair of running shoes that is not cheap. If you do wish to seek advice, go to those who have almost the same body structure you do. You can also find reviews on running shoes that cater to your foot type. The importance of having a good pair of running shoes to get started jogging cannot be stressed enough.

When you go out road bike cycling there are two things on your mind, usually.  First, getting some serious speed going; and secondly staying dry where it matters.  And that second place has got to be in the nether regions!

Most people know that real cyclists don’t wear lycra because it looks good.  Well it does look good, the way it smooths out the odd bumps and wrinkles and makes even people like me who are on the slightly tubby side look a lot better!  But that is beside the point.

The first problem of speed is solved with Lycra – which is kind of a nylon spandex mixed together with polyester – it is designed for the job.  It is incredible the amount of drag there is on a bike from just clothing, never mind the person sitting astride the thing!  In wind tunnel tests, the rider makes up 90% of the drag, and baggy clothing makes things worse.

The second problem is that of being dry.  I am not just talking about a soaking from the heavens.  I am talking sweat, masses of it.  I get drenched, personally.  And the chamois together with the polyester blend is designed to grab that moisture, and direct it towards the outer layers where it can evaporate.

Of course, waist high shorts do that job, but shorts with straps – such as the asos bib shorts – are so much better at the job.

The reason the chamois works is that it is in contact with the warm and wet surface area, and that’s how it soaks up the sweat.  It therefore stands to reason that the tighter that contact, the more effect if it.  You could say that the bike pressure of the saddle is enough, but it isn’t.  Bibs are definitely the right option because they apply this pressure evenly and consistently throughout the ride.

If you are a runner, you probably already know how important it is to own high quality running shoes. But do you also know how to break them in, and when to replace them? These two important factors are often neglected or poorly understood. This article will address these two important topics.

Break In Period

Whatever you do, do NOT wear your new pair of running shoes on race day! You will be rewarded for your hard work with lots of blisters, and possibly even foot damage.

According to Andre Kaokane at Cross Country Running Shoes 101, you should plan to run approximately 100 miles (160 km) in a brand new pair of shoes before using them for long-distance workouts or races. During the break-in period, you should use you new shoes for shorter workouts until they are broken in properly. Of course, this means that you can’t wait until your old shoes are completely worn out before buying new ones.

Replacement Time

Your running shoes use cushioning technology to protect your feet. The cushioning material absorbs the impact shock of your feet striking the ground. Over time, the cushioning breaks down until it can no longer do ts job effectively. That’s when the time has come to replace your shoes.

But how can you know exactly when that time has arrived? You can examine the wear of the outsole tread, or check the crease patterns on the foam insole, or notice when the shoe starts to feel like it gives up too much range of motion. But there is no perfect rule to determine when replacement is needed.

A handy rule of thumb says to replace the shoes every 500 miles (800 km). However, this rule is just a general guide. A runner with a lighter body frame might have a good pair of shoes last for 800 miles (1300 km), whereas a larger-framed runner breaks down the shoes more quickly, and might only see 350 miles (550 km) before replacement is needed.

The longer you run on a worn-out shoe, the more risk you run for incurring a stress-related injury to your legs or feet. It’s both cheaper and safer to replace the shoe, rather than see the doctor! And never fear, your old shoe still has plenty of life left in it, as long as you use it for any non-running activity, like walking or cycling.

The bikini is lauded on beaches throughout the world as the sexiest piece of swimwear for the ladies to flaunt their stuff, however, they perhaps show a bit too much flesh for some women.

Running tights have become a popular and affordable way for runners that want more material on their lower body than just shorts. The advantage to tights is that depending on the type, they can be made for running in cold weather, to help wick away sweat from the skin, or even to improve running performance and efficiency. Although there are many different manufacturers of running tights, they all have some common features. They are more form fitting and stretchable for running than sweatpants. Tights can be made of several different materials but they are usually made of blends of polyester, nylon and spandex for different levels of comfort, support and form fitting.

More sophisticated running tights have ventilated areas for getting rid of excess heat to keep the runner cool. Some tights are fleece lined for cold weather runs to keep the runner warm and comfortable, while giving them the freedom of movement. Added features to tights include reflector banding for safety and visibility and detailed stitching to keep the chafing to a minimum.

Newly designed tights have actually gone to the next level and have become an added benefit to the runner who wears them. Some running tights are designed to actually help the athlete with muscle recovery and improve performance while on the run. With special bands of material that wrap around the muscles and important points on the legs, compression tights work for the runner to improve proper stride length and muscular function. Due to the constriction of the tights on the lower body, it actually forces the legs into proper alignment so that the running motion is more economical. This benefits the runner by using less energy to go the same distance and improves the economy of motion in the runner. This results in measurable gains of energy for the runner. These same tights also force lactic acid out of the muscle at a faster rate, so legs will feel fresher for longer and after hard runs and workouts, they will recover faster.

Men’s Running Tights and Women’s Running Tights are specially made to fit to particular body types. Be sure to try different brands and types of  tights when looking to purchase a pair. They are an excellent investment for runners of all ranges of abilities and they make heading out on an early morning run that much more attractive.

Like anybody else deciding to start a new sport, runners need to make sure they answer a long list of pertinent questions in order to get the most value from their new pursuit. The most important consideration for female joggers is picking the right girls running shoes. Here are my magnificent seven tips to make sure you start off on the right foot!

1. Consider where you will be running. If you enjoy track running, then you’ll probably be better off buying a pair of spikes or cleats. The same applies to cross country runners, where muddy, slippery conditions make trail spikes a wise purchase. For parks and footpaths, where the terrain is harder, a high quality pair of running sneakers will be the best option.

2. When buying running shoes, you need to be careful to pick the ones that match your foot type. Some people are flat-footed, whereas others have high arches. If you do not fall into either of these categories, you can choose from a wide range of shoes for neutral gait runners. There are specialist ones for the two other types mentioned, which offer added stability for flat-footed athletes; and extra cushioning and flexibility for the high-arched ones. Go to a store that specializes in shoes for runners. They will normally be able to do gait analysis for free, to determine which foot type you are.

3. Following on the last point, it is a good idea to go shopping for new training shoes dressed in jogging pants and a comfy t-shirt. You will then be perfectly comfortable jumping onto a treadmill to do gait analysis or to test out a variety of different shoes.

4. Try to go out looking for your new sneakers in the afternoon or after work in the evening. Your feet will slightly expand during the day, especially if you are always on them in an active type of job.

5. Make sure the shoes fit perfectly in both length and width. Allow about a thumb’s width for the length, but you should aim to minimize any sliding about inside the shoes. If they are too big, the sliding motion will rub your skin and cause painful blisters.

6. Do not allow the staff in the store to rush you into a purchase. If the pair you are trying on do not feel right, get the staff to bring you some others to try on. Ask for half sizes and wider sizes if they have them and you feel they will benefit you in terms of comfort. Once you have a shortlist of two or three pairs which feel right, only then ask for the prices. If you start out cheap, you will probably get ones that need replacing sooner.

7. Once you have your new dream running shoes, don’t assume they will be perfect straight out of the box. Do not try and run a marathon in them. Always bed them in first; go out for a few easy runs over a couple of weeks to see how they feel, and get used to them.

If you follow these tips, you should be able to find a great pair of girls running shoes that will last you at least for the next 500 miles – actually, that’s the secret tip number 8: never continue with a pair of running shoes for more than 500 miles! By then, it’ll be time for your next pair.

Anyone who is a runner will tell you that the most important piece of equipment that you will ever buy is your shoe. While everyone has their favorites, certain companies are known for certain things. Sometimes the best shoe will depend on the style of running or even an injury that has caused some pain. However, there are a few companies that stand above all others.

Asics – the Asics GEL Kayano series is generally regarded as one of the best running shoes on the market. They are so popular that the only place to get them often times is on the Internet. Brick and mortar stores sell out of them just about as fast as they come in the front door. There may not be a better shoe on the market for cushioning and stability.

New Balance – they may not be as big and fancy as some of the other manufacturers, but they continue to put out a great product year after year. While they may have slipped back in rankings for the basic running shoe, their cross-country running shoes are still among the top in the industry.

Brooks – Brooks is another company that a new runner may not know by brand, but they feature one of the top shoes on the market with the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 9. Amazingly enough, the shoe is readily available for under $100. If you are online or at a store that sells them, you cannot go wrong by trying them.

Nike – of course, what “Best of” list would be complete with Nike? The have and probably always will be one of the most popular shoemakers on the planet. Regardless of the category, they always seem to have a shoe that makes everyone’s list. One thing is for sure, when you buy Nike, you know you are going to get a quality product that has the Nike name behind it.

Let’s not forget mens Adidas trainers and mens Puma trainers. They are also two of the largest men’s footwear manufacturers in the world.
