My husband and I recently adopted two children, and let me say life got busy very fast. Suddenly trips to the gym and other athletic activities got put on hold in favor of PTA and homework time. Figuring out how to stay fit during this process of change was difficult to say the least. But being the vain person that I am and knowing that if I want to keep my body looking like what I want it to look like, I knew that I would have to figure it out, or lose my figure in the process. Here is what I discovered.
Looking good is key for me to actually working out. I am a mom that REFUSES to look like I just rolled out of bed and put on clothes. That goes for when I sit down to do my work, but it is even true when I exercise. I just like to look nice. Because I am a fuller figured woman the most important piece of exercise gear I own is a supportive sports bra. This is the foundation of my exercise wardrobe. It saves me from a ton of pain and gives me confidence. I then top it off with some casual clothes (for walking), or some more intense workout gear for lifting or jogging. If I feel good about the way I look I am more likely to get in a work out.
Having the right equipment is key. I used to go to the gym, but really just don’t have time anymore. So instead, I bought a good quality set of bowflex adjustable dumbbells. This helps me keep my muscles in shape and looking great in the least amount of time. I do exercises like squats and bicep curls, and to keep my stomach looking good, I do planks. I love these weights because they are easy to store and easy to use.
Making time for yourself after you have kids is very, very important. Your kids are important, and to be the best mom that you can be it is important that you treat them that way.
