Stretch marks can be defined as scarring of the skin in a pale colored hue due to drastic gain or loss of weight .It is a dermatological disorder that is often cased when the dermis is torn off. At times the dermis (layer on the skin) is stretched a bit too much due to pregnancy, weight gain, puberty, building of muscles etc. Hormonal changes in the human body have been known to be the predominant cause behind these marks. Glucocorticoid is the hormone that prevents formation of elastic fiber and collagen in human body and thus accentuates the shabby marks.

Cosmetic and beauty industry has exponentially proliferated over the past few decades and has invented several therapies and solutions to combat the issue of increased these marks. These not only look ugly but can also give rise to itching and allergies if overlooked. There are numerous treatments to remove marks and regain a healthy and clear skin. Some of the predominantly used treatments are:

* Regular application and massage of authentic cocoa butter on the affected areas .Though it is an easy way out but you need to be patient as tends to be a slow therapy.
* Apply a cream containing collagen hydrolysates and extracts of Gotu Kola. Studies show that daily usage of such creams show quick results and is the best stretch mark treatment.
* One can also opt for laser treatments such as dermabrasion to ensure permanent removal of stretch marks on the body parts
* Surgical procedures like tummy tuck can also be an alternative to using creams or laser surgery.

It has been observed that most women develop these marks during pregnancy around sixth to seventh month when the skin is stretched too much. Whatever be the cause, one should always consult a dermatologist before opting for any removal procedure. Professional will help you get the best treatment but will also ensure that there is no harm done to your body and skin.
